In some instances, when a tooth is very badly decayed, a filling can’t repair the tooth. In these circumstances, a crown is often an excellent way to save the natural tooth. Fortunately, modern dentistry allows us to utilize porcelain crowns, which are virtually invisible. Dr. Klingsporn is pleased to provide this service to his patient family from throughout the Austin, TX area.
Top Reasons to Choose Boulder Canyon Family Dentistry for Porcelain Crowns:
- It’s almost always preferable to save your natural teeth, and porcelain crowns are an effective way to repair a tooth that might otherwise be lost
- Because the color of porcelain crowns can be closely matched to your normal tooth color, they are virtually invisible
- The material used in porcelain crowns is very durable and usually lasts for many, many years
What You Should Know about Porcelain Crowns
Crowns are custom-made dental appliances that cover the entire surface of an existing tooth. Although the name of this material may suggest otherwise, porcelain crowns are actually quite strong and typically last for many, many years.
Dr. Klingsporn may recommend porcelain crowns to resolve any of the following dental problems:
- Broken teeth
- Misshaped teeth
- Badly decayed teeth
- Teeth that have undergone a root canal
The Porcelain Crown Procedure
Crowns normally require a patient to make two trips to our office. During the first trip, an impression is made of the affected tooth. That impression is then used to create a custom-made crown for the patient. The next step involved removing any decay that is present on the tooth, then cleaning the tooth surface. Before leaving the office, the patient is fitted with a temporary crown. During the second visit to our office, the patient is fitted with the new permanent crown, after which the tooth should be fully functional once again.
